Phoeth Mwende

After the death of my mother in 2017, my brother, sister, and I were left in the care of our abusive and alcoholic father. Community members became aware of the traumatic situation in our home and reported the abuse to authorities. This eventually led to the arrest and imprisonment of my father.

My older brother and I were brought to Mukaa in late 2023. I am now in 1st  grade and beginning to experience the stability and security of a loving home where we are getting the support we need to heal and grow.
