After her parents separated, Stella and her mother lived in a small property at a shopping center and depended on handouts for food and supplies. Stella’s mother struggles with alcoholism and often left Stella home alone where she became vulnerable to exploitation from men in the community.  When Stella’s circumstances were made known to authorities, she was rescued and taken to the Mukaa Children’s Home. At Mukaa, Stella is not only receiving the basic needs of good food, clothing, and safe shelter, but also the loving support, guidance, and counseling she needs for emotional and social healing.

 

Stella has been placed in grade 6 at the Mukaa Primary School and has already begun her journey from the trauma of the past to a future of hope.
